Dear Nuclear Medicine Professional,
Covidien has worked closely with all our suppliers, and we were able to secure additional molybdenum 99 (Mo 99) from some, though not sufficient amounts to meet our total need. The majority of our supply will come from the Polish Maria reactor, reinforcing the value of this important addition to the supply chain, until the expected September 9 Dutch High Flux Reactor (HFR) return1. The daily view of September below includes confirmed sources, along with anticipated HFR Mo 99, and is a reflection of the expected final Covidien Mo 99 supply in the Americas for the month. As a reminder, those days shown as green may indicate some extra generator production beyond standing orders, which could benefit particularly challenging days beyond.*Projections are, as always, subject to change.
Increased thallium Tl 201 for those procedures where it can be a clinically appropriate substitute will continue to be available within our supply capacity as the Mo 99 shortage remains in effect. You are encouraged to interact frequently with your Covidien representative to ensure your needs are known.
The careful planning and cooperation of nuclear medicine professionals like you have proven highly beneficial to patients throughout this situation. Your efforts are commended, and we thank you for your continued support. We also applaud the return of the Canadian National Research Universal (NRU) reactor, and look forward to a fully functional Mo 99 supply chain soon after HFR’s return.
We are committed to frequent communication as new updates are available. You may also visit www.covidien.com/Mo99supplyto learn more.
Sincerely,
Elaine E. Haynes, RPh Vice President, Imaging Commercial Operations, Americas
